Next Wave is a joint exhibition of university design clubs in Korea. I participated in the exhibition as a member of Hangulggol, the Korean typeface design group. Samwon Paper Gallery, the exhibition organizer, asked each club to design an exhibition poster, and I created one on behalf of Hangulggol.
Since I was studying the design of Hangul, the Korean character, at my club, I wanted to express the title "Next Wave" in Hangul instead of using the Roman alphabet. However I thought that the overall slope and stroke in Roman italic typefaces were similar to the shape of waves and embodied the motion of waves very well. So I deconstructed them and recreated it in Korean lettering. This lettering was developed as a set of typeface which later won the King Sejong Prize at the Korean Typeface Design Competition.
